How could Wireless Communications be made more secure

Presentation Wireless correspondence is by a wide margin the most generally spread and quickest developing segment of the correspondence business. It has entranced our human progress all things considered. As per Brian Fling, â€Å"The phone is without a doubt probably the best creation of humanity. It upset correspondences, empowering us to reach across significant stretches and offer musings, thoughts and dreams with our individual man, making the world an a lot littler spot in the process.† (Fling, 2009, p.1).Advertising We will compose a custom research project test on How could Wireless Communications be made progressively secure? explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The message arrange, created by Samuel Morse in 1838 opened the way of remote correspondence and was assisted by Guglielmo Marconi in 1895, when he transmitted the three-speck Morse code by the assistance of electromagnetic waves. Therefore radio correspondence appeared. There has been a div erse development in this fragment. Among the sections of remote correspondence, cell innovation has been the most well known and generally acknowledged innovation. The explanation of the notoriety of cell innovation is its straightforwardness in taking care of. Further in this paper, we will talk about the phone innovation, our region of research. The Cell Phone Technology Alexander Graham Bell imagined the phone in 1876. As indicated by Ian Poole, â€Å"A number of individuals chipped away at transmitting sound over wires. In 1857 an Italian-American named Antonio Meucci built up a crude phone framework yet, originating from a poor foundation, he couldn't acquire any monetary support. The generally recognized designer of the phone was a Scot named Alexander Graham Bell.† (Poole, 2006, p.2). Along these lines, radio phones for vehicles were concocted, in which there was a focal reception apparatus in every city that could take into account a limit of 25 channels. Relatively f ew individuals could utilize this administration. Additionally, it was a constrained separation administration, to be exact, for up to a separation of 70 km. After numerous changes done throughout the years, we have the telephone in its current shape. The market of cell phones and cordless telephones accumulated pace and today these are one of the most looked for buyer items. Wireless, called PDA in slang utilization, otherwise called cell phone, is a sort of media transmission that utilizations short-wave simple or computerized transmissions. The subscriber’s cell phone is associated (remote) to the closest versatile pinnacle (transmitter). A cell phone ought not be bewildered with a cordless telephone on the grounds that the last has an exceptionally restricted remote network to its base telephone. The ‘Mobile Telephone Service’ (MTS) was propelled in St. Louis in the year 1946, with three channels and manual activity. MTS was propelled by Motorola as a team wi th the Bell System. The administrations were well known, yet since they were restricted, another help to be specific, the ‘Improved Mobile Telephone Service’ (IMTS) was propelled in the year 1964.Advertising Looking for research project on correspondences media? During the 1980s, the ‘Advanced Mobile Telephone System (AMTS) was propelled that shut down the IMTS and RCC frameworks. In every one of these frameworks, the telephone client needed to stay in a specific cell region while talking. He/she was unable to move out in light of the fact that the reuse of frequencies was not yet begun. Martin Cooper and some different representatives of Motorola to be specific, Richard W. Dronsuth, Albert J. Mikulski, Charles N. Lynk Jr., James J. Mikulski, John F. Mitchell, Roy A. Richardson, and John H. S angster, concocted the main vehicle telephone in 1973. Motorola was the primary organization to dispatch a conventional cell phone, for open use, in 1983. The model was called ‘Motorola Dyna TAC 8000X, gauging 2 pounds and a battery that must be energized each thirty minutes of talk time. The expense of this telephone was $3,995. Motorola got endorsement for its telephone from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Prior, cell phone was an extravagance item claimed distinctly by a chose hardly any rich individuals, however today cell phone has become a need. Martin Cooper had stated, â€Å"People need to converse with others †not a house, or an office, or a vehicle. Given a decision, individuals will request the opportunity to convey any place they are, liberated by the notorious copper wire. It is that opportunity we to clearly exhibit in 1973.† (as refered to in about.com) Modus Operandi of Cell Phones Now let us talk about how mobile phones work. Let us ta ke a case of a specific city. As far as anyone knows, there will be numerous transporters in that city. Every transporter has around 830 unique frequencies to utilize. The transporter partitions the city into little cells which permit wide-going reuse of the recurrence all through that city. Thus, various individuals can utilize the administration simultaneously. Regularly, a cell is intended to provide food around 26 km. Every cell can be depicted as a feature of a colossal hexagonal framework. A pinnacle is set at the focal point of the cell so it covers a huge region. The accompanying graph will additionally clarify the hypothesis: Advertising We will compose a custom research paper test on How could Wireless Communications be made progressively secure? explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Owing to utilization of low-power transmitters, cells that are separated can reuse a similar recurrence. In the above graph, a similar recurrence can be reused by the cells wi th red diagram. A cell is upheld by a pinnacle and a room that has the necessary hardware. In a simple framework, seventh piece of the accessible duplex voice channels is utilized by a cell. Therefore, every cell has its own different recurrence and there is no way of crash. In simple framework, two frequencies are utilized per cal. Every cell has 56 accessible voice channels. The utilization of advanced transmission builds the quantity of accessible channels and all things considered, more individuals can talk at a given time. A commonplace model is the ‘Time Division Multiple Access’ (TDMA) framework that expands the accessible up to multiple times. Different instances of computerized transmission framework are the ‘Code Division Multiple Access’ (CDMA) and the ‘Global System for Mobile Communication’ (GSM). The transmissions radiated by a phone and a base station are low-controlled. Low-fueled transmissions have a double advantage. Right off the bat, the transmissions of a specific cell are acclimated to the point that they stay inside their cell’s limits. Accordingly, as should be obvious in the above graph, the cells with the red blueprint can reuse a similar recurrence on and on. Besides, mobile phones devour less force which requires little batteries. This very truth has made the wireless a reality. Bury cell correspondence Each wireless has its own run of the mill code that is utilized as a personality of the proprietor. This code additionally gives insights concerning the telephone and the system supplier. Following is the grouping of happenings when somebody attempts to call. At the point when a telephone is turned on, it first scans for the System Identification Code (SID) through the control station. SID is fundamentally a five digit number that is one of a kind for every cell phone. Control channel is the recurrence at which the telephone and the base station associate with one another and impart about the ring set and station evolving. In the event that the control channel isn't discovered, it implies the telephone is out of range and a message of ‘no service’ will be flashed on the cell phone screen. When the SID is conveyed, it is contrasted with the preset SID of the cell phone. On the off chance that both the SIDs are same implies that two cell phones of a similar home framework have been associated. All the while, an enrollment demand is likewise transmitted by the cell phone. The Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO) tracks the portable phone’s area with the goal that it knows the specific cell wherein the cell phone is found and can call the cell phone when it needs to. At the point when somebody approaches the cell phone, it is first gotten by the MTSO. Thus, the MTSO attempts to find the cell phone by investigating the database for its area. When the cell has been distinguished, the MTSO at that point coordinates the recurrence of the cell phone w ith the accessible frequencies so it can pick the correct one. At that point once the cell phone and the pinnacle switch on to that recurrence, the call should be associated. Thusly, the discussion begins. While progressing, when the cell phone arrives at the edge of its phone, the sign quality beginnings lessening. And yet, the phone towards which the cell phone is moving beginnings accepting its solid signs. The base stations of these two cells speak with one another and at some specific point, the recurrence is changed and the cell phone is naturally turned on to the next recurrence. While on Roaming A cell phone is supposed to be in wandering if its SID isn't coordinating with the SID of the phone where it is found. The base station of this cell contacts the command post station of the cell phone. When the command post station affirms the legitimacy of the SID, the nearby MTSO is imparted about it and from now on that specific MTSO matches its recurrence with that of the cell ph one and tracks its developments through its cells. Personally, I believe that success is only the result of hard work and perseverance. I feel this way for two main reasons, which I will explore in the following essay. To begin with, success is always the result of hard work over a long period of time. Success happens gradually, and only after a series of correct decisions and small victories. A stroke of luck, in contrast, is generally perceived to be a one-time event. The experience of my uncle, a successful entrepreneur, is a compelling example of what I mean. Since 2005, he has run a very profitable technology firm which manufactures and sells a wide range of products. His business started very small when he invested his savings to develop and market a single product and hire his first employee. When that product became popular, my uncle compounded his success by introducing new products and gradually increasing the size of his company. His company later grew from a single employee to include a staff of dozens. While my uncle might have been lucky at one stage of his company’s growth, the long-term success of his firm cannot simply be the result of good fortune.Secondly, success is usually the result of careful planning, research and education, all of which require a lot of work to achieve. For instance, some people said that my uncle was lucky when his initial product offering was succ essful. However, he was confident that his product would be a hit even before he started manufacturing it. This is because he spent thousands of dollars on market research and focus groups. It was this investment of time and money, not luck, which assured the early success of his business. Likewise, when his small firm merged with another firm just before that company rose to prominence some called him lucky. However, my uncle had spent weeks interviewing the research and development team at that company and predicted their success based on what they told him. Had he not been confident of their potential, he would not have completed the merger. Again, this victory was the result of diligence rather than luck, despite what some observers say about it. In conclusion, I firmly believe that success comes as a result of hard work. This is because success takes a lot of time to achieve, and it also required very careful planning. (423 words)

Public High School Students Have The First Amendment Right...

Public high school students have the First Amendment right of free expression and the Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable searches while they’re at school. These protections extend a student’s social media and to the digital contents of their cell phones. At the same time, public high schools have special characteristics associated with their duty to educate students and provide a safe and orderly place conducive to learning and so students accept greater restrictions of their constitutional rights while in school. At issue with respect to Rocktown High School’s 2016 AP History class is whether the school’s â€Å"search† of history student’s social media â€Å"friends,† obtained under threat of suspension, was reasonable, whether the†¦show more content†¦Fourth Amendment. Mrs. Smith was justified in demanding that Britney Sullivan log on to social media and reveal the â€Å"secret group† suspected of cheating because Mrs. Smith’s suspicions were supported by facts and she narrowly focused her â€Å"search† to the group’s discussion of the AP history exam questions. Before searching through a student’s personal items, school officials need to have reasonable grounds to believe that the student has violated a school rule. Reasonable grounds can be based on all sorts of information, including a tip from another student as well as a student’s history of breaking school rules. Mrs. Smith knew that a group of AP History students missed the same questions, had, unexpectedly, extremely high test scores and she had a tip that the test had been stolen and questions discussed by a secret group on a specific social media site. The tip and the fishy test results gave Mrs. Smith enough suspicion to question Sullivan, a m ember of the suspect group who had broken school rules before. Cheating on a high school exam is a very serious violation. And the more serious the violation, the stronger the school’s reasons to search for evidence to either approve or dispel it. â€Å"Fourth Amendment rights†¦ are different in public schools†¦ the reasonableness inquiry cannot disregard the schools custodial and tutelary responsibility for children.†(Board of Education v. Flat or House Free Essays

I would like to speak about what is better to live in a flat or in a house ? Comparing living in a flat or a house is difficult. Someone says that living in a house is better than in a flat and someone the opposite. An I think that living in house is much better than living in flat. We will write a custom essay sample on Flat or House or any similar topic only for you Order Now Fistly, I would like to speak about living in a flat. Speaking about positives aspects about living in a flat I should say that people who‘s doesn’t like working in garden or just being quiet and alone there really should choose to live in a flat as you don’t have any problems about that. But living in a flat there is and negative aspects. I live in a flat. The flats are often smaller than houses. In flats there usually isn’t so much place as in a house. If a family has more children, the children must live in one room together. In most cases, people living in flats don’t have any gardens or cottages, only a garage. The main advantage of living in a flat is that flats aren’t so expensive and usually are situated in a town, where everything is near and handy. Secondly, I would like to speak about living in house. Living in houses has many advantages too. There are more places for living. Every member of the family can have his or her room. A house usually has more rooms. In a house can be a big kitchen with larder, a workroom, a fitness room, more bedrooms, toilets and bathrooms and of course an attic. There can be spare rooms for guests and visitors too. In the house, there can be a cellar, where to store the vegetables and fruits from a garden. Next to a house, there is usually a  big or small garden, where children can play and they don’t play on the street, where there is a traffic. For example, you can also keep pets there on a garden. Family can work in a garden, relax, or do various parties. Houses usually have garages. It’s very good place for men’s hobbies. Speaking about negatives aspects I should say that living in hause is very expensive and it is require a lot of care: such as housework. Also in detached house you can feel like in your own castle. Nobody disturbs you, but also nobody helps you too. You house usually is in the suburb. There is cleaner air and prettier environment then in the centre. In suburb, you need to have your own car, because usually there is no bus stop and you have to walk for a few kilometres to the nearest one. All in all, I should say that I better prefer living in a house then living in a flat because it is much more comfortable and better than living in a flat. How to cite Flat or House, Papers

Zara International Supply Chain Management

Introduction A company’s management has the role of managing operations and Supplies to ensure adequate supply of materials in the company at the right time at an appropriate competitive cost. Supplies takes the form of having the raw material required for production at the right time to make the process effective and in the case of outsourced manufacturing services, the timely supply of the finished products (Cousins, Lamming, Lawson and Squire,2008).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Zara International Supply Chain Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More As many Europeans companies are shifting their operation (manufacturing) base to China, African Nations and Asia, to enjoy the cheaper labor markets there; however, some companies like Zara International Fashions have opted to procure their products in Europe. The main question is why has Zara International ignored the perceived benefit from outsourced manufacturing? This paper seeks to answer the above question; it will discuss the answer from a supply-chain management angle. What is Supply Chain Management? A business process is a well-coordinated sequential task, undertaken to fulfill certain set objectives. Every stage is managed as it contributes to attainment of the set goals and objectives. Generally, three sets of business processes they are, managerial processes, operational processes and supporting processes. Supply chain management aims at providing goods necessary for production in a business. It starts from identifying the materials required for various processes in the company and ends with the supply of those goods. It has a period; an efficient process must be completed within a set period. A supply chain management is an internal operation whose results the internal and final consumer feels. It has the following objectives: To ensure that there are quality and quantity supply of goods and services To ensure that there is a Just in time delivery of goods and services Control the supply system and attain highest efficiency possible Reduction of transportation cost, lead time and warehouse costs Enhance customer service through provision of high quality goods. When a company has an adequate supply of materials, it is able to produce goods in the right time at an affordable and competitive price. When sourcing products from another country, the approach of supply chain management moves a notch higher, companies in Europe has to contend with other logistics though in the supply chain network that companies like Zara procuring locally are not entitle to, they include: International logistic issues To have adequate supply, the prevailing conditions must be optimal and no external influence; when a company is procuring from abroad, it is affected by economic, political and social changes in the procuring country; this makes the business miss the confidence that they can supply when wanted. This reason makes Zara opt for local produced goods.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Complication of international procurements When getting goods abroad, companies are seen to operate two stage complicated supply chain, they must ensure that either the foreign country gets the materials, those sent from the buying country or it has procured in the local market; to manage such a process is complicated and time consuming. Zara has opted to have a simple local manufacturing that it can manage effectively (Zara International, 2011). The make-buy decision When in business, the management must make the decisions whether they will use their own manufactured goods or they will buy already made goods; the decision is rather personal to a business and considers many options. When a company decides to make products, it ensures that it has the right expertise materials are available as w ell labor. The main factor of consideration is whether making ones products will lead to a reduced cost of production or alternatively it will lead to higher quality that will lead to increased sales. The reason why other European countries have decided to get their products made from Asian and Chinese countries is the labor costs, this makes the goods cheap in the end; however managing the process for quality is complicated; again it is a shaky deal where a company has to worry about any change in the country of procurements stability. Zara International has opted to buy more form the market because of a variety of factors; they include: When buying locally, it will not be given the margin to buy to be sold at an appropriate cost; this is different than when manufacturing, the manufacturer has to make some products to break even which may lead to over production. When buying locally, the company will have the option of comparing the many varieties in the market and procure form tho se companies that have the products in demand. This makes the company have the best products at an affordable cost (Zara International, 2011). Sourcing strategies and supply chain configurations When manufacturing goods from a country different form the country of sales, the European companies depending on other companies have to undertake some suppliers/abroad manufactures. Configuration of supply chain is a procedural way that ensures that goods are delivered their place of need when they are needed to be. Logistic management involves processes undertaken by a company to ensure that it has goods and services it requires for its day-to-day activities when they are needed. Some governmental procedures or companies processes may shape it. In an international procurement, there are customs logistics that must be adhered to ensure that commodity is delivered at the right time. It involves procuring, handling, warehousing, verifying and control of goods imported. Customs laws must be ad hered.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Zara International Supply Chain Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More It is a lengthy process and thus an importing company must ensure that it has enough time for a just in time delivery. Logistics management team is given the mandate to ensure that delivery is done at the right time, right cost and the right place (Harrison and Hoek, 2008) When Zara procures locally, then it avoids all the above logistics and it can be sure that it will get what the market is offering; in the case the above logistics are hampered by something may be special to a procuring country or applying across the board, the procuring company will have to suffer the loss of business. However, the case is different when a company is procuring from the local scenes. Zara always has the option of selling what is available in the market thus at any one point is it on toes with the market, a move th at offers it competitive advantage. Strategic supplier selection A company should develop a good business relationship with its suppliers, as this will assist in making sure that there is reliability in the supply of materials. When in the international arena, a company should ensure that it has good relations will all the people in the line of business all the way from the sourcing of materials to the last person who will bring the goods into the company; this is not an easy task. When there is a good relation, it is easier to get goods at a better price and market data from suppliers whom the company has established good business relations. Maintaining the good relation with people of different personalities and companies with varying philosophies is not an easy job, sometimes it fails the manufacturing companies (Mangan, Lalwani and Butcher, 2008). The decision of Zara International to procure locally can be attributed to avoidance of the above hassle the management is better con centrate on looking for the best commodities in the local market and ensuring that the internal businesses processes are up to date and competitive. As other businesses are looking for relationship building approaches, the company is busy developing business processes and enacting them for a competitive business. Aligning supply with corporate strategy Companies are guided by corporate strategies; they should align their processes, including supply management processes to the company’s corporate strategy. A Company’s procurement and supplies department ensures that production materials and equipments required for an effective production are available, in the right quality and at an appropriate price, this will meet the company’s main goal of being profitable.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More With globalization, companies can procure goods and services that meet their requirements from different countries; the wide availability of materials and their markets has facilitated industrialization; however the policies and the ideologies in the international business has sometimes contradicted the procuring company corporate structure (Lysons and Gillingham, 2003). For example, many European companies have sustainable development agendas as one of their corporate strategies; however, they may procure from countries that have relaxed environmental laws, thus the procurement ends up violating the company’s corporate goal. Another area is in labor and its costs, different countries have different labor cost, Europeans companies have corporate goal of ensuring they have the best cared for human capital, but when they procure abroad, the standards set in those countries may be different thus the company ends up violating its own corporate goal indirectly (Christopher, 2005). Zara International is keen on maintaining and respecting its corporate goals and objectives; when the company buys from local scenes, it is able to make sure that all areas have been looked into before making a move. For example, it will be able to make sure that it buys from companies that respect their employee’s rights and those that protect the environment. With such moves, it will be satisfying its corporate goals and objectives (Zara International, 2011) Conclusion Having an effective supply chain management offers a competitive advantage to an organization; supply chain management has the main objective to ensuring that at any one time there are adequate supplies to a business, at an appropriate cost and place. To buy locally available goods or manufacture goods for sale is a decision that management has to make; Zara has opted to purchase over 80% of its goods locally, instead of having international manufacturing joints that have cheaper labor. The main reason for t he decision is to offer management a chance to concentrate on other business processes that will offer a competitive advantage to the company; it is also a risk management approach. The Underworld Adventure of Aeneas in The Aeneid

The Underworld Adventure of Aeneas in The Aeneid Virgil imbues his Hades, as well as his Elysium, with a substantiated and understandable raison detre , and in the process corrects the notions of his predecessor [Homer in the Odyssey]. For Virgil, the Underworld must be categorized and organized as well as justified: thus the grouping of the souls of his Hades by reason or nature of punishment.Interaction and Reaction in Virgil and Homer Underworld Issues Here are some of the unanswered questions about the mythology of the Underworld that are left at the end of the nekuia (Underworld scene) of Book XI of the Odyssey, by Homer: Why was Elpenor upset that he hadnt been buried? Why was it said that Tiresias, of all mortals, was permitted to keep a clear head about mortal matters? Why were the shades of the eternally tortured, Sisyphus, Tityos, and Tantalus, near each other? The view of the Underworld presented in the nekuia is alien from modern views of death. Its hard to understand what went on when one adheres strictly to Judaeo-Christian visions of Hell. On this page and the next are some insights into the Homeric Underworld, based on references to Vergil. The Aeneid, by Vergil (or Virgil), was written many centuries after Homers Odyssey. Despite a few centuries, Vergil is chronologically closer to Homer than we are. Vergil is a good model also because he deliberately patterned his work on Homer and elaborated on it, and he lived in a milieu where Homers writing was still very much a part of the common culture since Homer was at the heart of the routine education of children. Therefore, Vergil tells us something about the Greco-Roman (pagan) Underworld that we should know to understand Homers nekuia. The striking similarities and close contrasts between the Underworlds of the two poets make it painfully obvious that Virgil was strongly affected by the ideas instilled in Homers text. How exactly he reacted to this burden, however, and how he attempted to justify his own work and separate it from that of Homer: these are the difficult yet ever-important questions. In re-creating Homers Hades, and in the process facing up to his predecessor, Virgil exhibits clearly his desire to re-work Homer, to complete and perfect the vision of the earlier poet.Interaction and Reaction in Virgil and Homer Reasons for Going to the Underworld HomerOdysseus goes to the Underworld for help getting home.VergilAeneas goes to pay a duty call on his dead father Anchises. Underworld Guidance HomerThe help Odysseus seeks comes from the prophet, Tiresias, in the Underworld and the sorceress, Circe, among the living.VergilAmong the living, Aeneas seeks the guidance of the Sibyl at Cumae, a priestess of Apollo who speaks inspired prophetic utterances. Among the dead, he seeks the counsel of his father. Warnings HomerCirce calms his fears and instructs Odysseus on how to travel.VergilThe Sibyl tells Aeneas how to proceed but warns him that while the trip to Hades is easy, the return voyage is limited to the select favorites of Jupiter. Aeneas must be divinely chosen if he is to return. This isnt all that terrifying a caveat, however, since he will know in advance whether he will be able to make the trip. In order to start the journey, the Sibyl says he must find a golden bough sacred to Proserpine. Should the gods not want him to proceed, he will fail to find it, but he does find it. In the guise of two doves, Venus, Aeneas mother, guides him. Unburied Dead Like Odysseus, Aeneas has a dead companion to bury, but unlike his predecessor, Aeneas must bury him before proceeding to the Underworld because the death has contaminated Aeneas fleet (totamque incestat funere classem). Aeneas does not initially know which of his companions has died. When he finds Misenus dead, he performs the necessary ceremonies. Misenus lay extended on the shore;Son of the God of Winds: none so renowndThe warrior trumpet in the field to sound; With breathing brass to kindle fierce alarms,And rouse to dare their fate in honorable arms.He servd great Hector, and was ever near,Not with his trumpet only, but his spear. But by Pelides arms when Hector fell,He chose Æneas; and he chose as well.Swoln with applause, and aiming still at more,He now provokes the sea gods from the shore; With envy Triton heard the martial sound,And the bold champion, for his challenge, drownd; Then cast his mangled carcass on the strand:The gazing crowd around the body stand.162-175 Slightly different from Odysseus, Aeneas has 2 men for whom he must provide funeral rites, but he doesnt find the second until the Sibyl has taken him to the shores of the River Styx, past the companions of Death: Famine, Pestilence, Old Age, Poverty, Fear, Sleep, and Disease (Curae, Morbi, Senectus, Metus, Fames, Egestas, Letum, Labos, and Sopor). There, on the shore, Aeneas finds his recently deceased helmsman, Palinurus, who cannot cross over until he is given a proper funeral rites. Proper burial is impossible since he was lost at sea.

Where Should I put my Quotation Marks Slate Magazine and the Rise of Logical Punctuation.

Where Should I put my Quotation Marks Slate Magazine and the Rise of Logical Punctuation. On May 12, 2011, not one, but TWO of my friends and colleagues pointed me toward an article in Slate Magazine entitled, â€Å"The Rise of Logical Punctuation†. In the article, author Ben Yagoda explores the nuances of where to place periods and commas within quotations (inside or outside the quotation marks?).   Not long ago, I wrote an article touching upon much the same topic:   The Quandary of Quotation Marks (â€Å" â€Å").   My conclusion was that the British are much more logical than we are in the U.S., following the rule that punctuation goes inside the quotation marks only when it is part of the quotation.   How simple is that?   And yet I continue to follow the U.S. protocol. Slate Magazine itself, as well as The New York Times and the Washington Post, follow AP guidelines and put periods and commas inside the quotation marks.   But Yagoda references a Twitter post by Conan O’Brien, a Wikipedia entry on Frank Sinatra, and the website Pitchfork, all of which follow the British way, with periods and commas lying outside the quotation marks.   He also relates that his students largely refuse to follow the traditional U.S. rules even when they know they will be penalized for doing so.   I highly recommend taking a look at his article for an interesting exploration of why we choose to punctuate the way we do. Last week my blog explored the distinction between grammar purists and progressives in Steven Sawyer’s guest article, Top 10 Obsolete Grammar Rules.   It looks like we can add number 11.   According to Yagoda, despite the Chicago Manual of Style’s adherence to the traditional style, we may be fast on our way to an obsolete punctuation rule – another feast for progressives.   As Yagoda claims, â€Å"A punctuation paradigm is shifting.†Ã‚   Note:   even under the â€Å"new† rules, or the â€Å"new normal,† the period belongs inside those quotation marks because it was indeed part of the original sentence in Yagoda’s article.   Crystal clear, right? By the way, â€Å"new normal† was the phrase chosen as â€Å"Cliche of the Week† last week by Chris Pash in his blog. Do you choose to follow the progressive â€Å"new normal† when it comes to quotation marks?   Or will you remain a purist?   So far I’m sticking with the old fashioned way, but I feel a possible change erupting. Category:Grammar Writing TipsBy Brenda BernsteinMay 23, 2011 1 Comment Steven Sawyer says: October 20, 2011 at 5:15 pm Brenda, good stuff. And thanks for the mention of my guest article. I wanted to share that I correspond regularly with teachers and students from places like Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Argentina and Columbia. It appears to me, from their comments and writing that these countries are leaning more heavily towards learning British English, not only in punctuation and grammar, but in spelling as well. For example, the British spelling of these words differs from how we spell them: centre, litre, metre, colour, favour, honour, labour, to name just a few. Do you think we will ever adopt British English if it becomes the standard for most of the rest of the world? Log in to Reply

The Lowest Moment in Advertising Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The Lowest Moment in Advertising - Essay Example While motion picture companies all over the world use this advertising tool to advertize the favorable reviews their movies received, Sony Pictures went ahead of the game. They invented their own critic by the name of David Manning and under this name wrote fake favorable reviews for not just the Knight’s Tale but also for Hollow Man, The Animal, The Patriot and the Vertical Limit (Lawrence and Webber, 2010). Sony Pictures Entertainment Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), formerly known as Columbia Pictures Entertainment was found in 1987 in California. SPE is subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America. Sony Corporation of America is further a subsidiary of Sony Corporation based in Tokyo, Japan. This multinational media conglomerate produces and also distributes motion pictures and television serials. SPE is one of the biggest media and technology conglomerates that provide entertainment in the form of movies, television, and technology to more than 140 countries around the wor ld. It reported total revenue of more than seven billion in 2010 (Sony Pictures, 2011). Where Sony failed With an organization as big and as established as Sony Pictures, this kind of advertising was not expected. The use of David Manning in numerous such advertising projects led Sony Pictures to incur a fine of 1.5 million pounds (BBC News, 2005). While Sony Pictures can easily recover from the financial aspect of the situation, it is the resulting brand value that creates challenges for the company. This particular advertising approach has affected Sony Pictures on different scales and aspects. Social, Ethical, Regulation aspects   Advertising has quickly become one of the five largest industries of the world. We are constantly exposed to advertising. Even when we do not realize it, advertising moulds our lives in such a manner that we are being constantly hypnotized with it. This has raised concerns among various critics who demanded the need for regulatory practices on adverti sing. The government was forced to take notice to protect the interest of the consumers against false advertising. However, even when the government has posed sanctions on certain types of advertising, social and ethical issues still arise which are outside the boundaries of these laws and here companies must take on their corporate social responsibility to ensure good practices. On the social level, advertising interacts with the consumers to educate them, create a feeling of happiness and generally improve on the standards of living (O’Guinn, Allen and Semenik, 2008). However, the use of David Manning’s review created the opposite effect. It misled the consumers through wrong information and those who went to watch the movie based on the review did not receive the level of satisfaction that they expected from a movie that was favorably liked by a critic. From an ethical stand point, advertising is supposed to be honest, fair and sensitive. Even if we often assume cre ative license to sell products through advertising, ethically we are required to ensure that the advertising is not deceiving. The use of David Manning was particularly deceiving since no such review was written and no such critic even existed at The Ridgefield Press. Such practices in advertising are called deceptive

Future of Modernization Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Future of Modernization - Essay Example Even though every society has a specific logic, some of the viewpoint matches; the outcomes of good and bad deeds, a constant change in the technological world with an ever increasing rate and even for the fact about society’s evolution. Two kinds of societies emerge in the post-industrial revolution era; those who put a heavy burden to find ways to match steps with the currently affluent counter parts or be lost in the race of whole mankind, like a forgotten equation. The development of modernization is different in different scenarios mainly due to a vast difference in the ways of governance, environment, enlightenment and other institutions. This paper discusses the modernization process in the United States society. Furthermore, the idea of an evolved modernization, aftermath of modernization and my ideas about the modernization in this country will be argued. Many people in U.S.A argue that the industrial revolution had a fresh effect on the society, which in turn dented many communities, economic manifest and institutional changes all across America. Modernization has injected itself in the American society from various angles which has proven to be an electric chair for small and traditional ways of living. It has also brought a massive expansion in personal opinions, social disparity, future planning and knowledge of passing time. The small rural communities were known for their coherent living for thousands of years, before modernization brought a steep decline to this fragrance of the American society. This close set-up was mainly due to the close inter-relationship between friends, families and neighbors. These were times when people relied on each other without any fear of misjudgment, just because they shared the same wall. These communities played a vital role in giving the people a sense of identity, security, identity and purpose (Neitz, 2009). Saying all of the above, one should not get carried away with what used to be because these soc ieties for all the closeness, had their fair share of issues; like minimum choices and conveniences, as compared to the modern society people. The old system of living is outdated now in this present age, with villages and small towns being tourist attractions for those who want to see a glimpse of the foregone lifestyle, its simplicity and non-complexity. An acute volume of attention is on agriculture, which has always been a heavy burden on the rural American areas. Therefore a lot of country men had to travel to the cities in the hunt of jobs, since more financial benefits have been based on the corporate economy, unlike the economy of the past, which heavily relied on agriculture in the past. The modification, as a result of the changing economic tilt, has brought a huge difference in the lives of the American citizens. The difference is such that, the people have forcefully adopted non-rural ways to live for survival. A strong observation can be made, one which defines that the post-industrial revolution society has killed the traditional ways and cultures of the past. Although a strong argument is presented to rebut this fact that the modern society has brought more options, life control to individuals as compared to the people in the pre-modern society, who had fewer choices in the areas of personal thinking. Development in the field of individual preference is another plus point of the modernization in U.S.A. The new order of modern society advertises an

Taken to nearby Georgetown at the age of one, he was educated in local and boarding schools. In 1839, under the name of Ulysses Simpson instead of his original Hiram Ulysses, he was appointed to West Point. Graduating 21st in a class of 39 in 1843, he was assigned to Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. There he met Julia Dent, a local planter's daughter, whom he married after the Mexican War. Anthem 2

Mrs. Gomez English 2CP 4, October, 2011 Were the struggles for individuality that Equality and Harrison had to face, as difficult as they thought it was? In the novella Anthem and the short story â€Å"Harrison Bergeron,† Rand and Vonnegut use the theme of individualism vs. collectivism to show the oppression of each society, the fear used to control its citizens and the characters that rebel. In both stories, oppression is used to make everyone equal. The government in Anthem takes away its citizens’ individuality to make a part of the group. In both stories, oppression is used to make everyone equal. â€Å"For the word ‘We’ must never be spoken, save by one’s choice and as a second thought† This shows that the word â€Å"We† was no longer used to describe people. They were their own person. â€Å"We† was determined as â€Å"I†, the word â€Å"we† took away their individuality. To take away their individuality, they assigned people jobs, like street sweeper or doctor, gave them no choices, because they did not let them choose their names or jobs, and put them into groups so they would not be alone. George is athletic, so he wears weights on him that slow him down, also being extremely intelligent, George wears an ear radio that goes off every 20 seconds, and the ballerinas wear masks in the story because they are beautiful. â€Å"Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was or quicker than anybody else. † Nobody was better than anyone else. Everyone was equal. They used handicaps to make everyone the same. The Handicapper General, Diana Moon Glampers, assigns the characters handicaps to make everyone equal in the short story â€Å"Harrison Bergeron†. Harrison fought for his and everyone else’s individuality. Fear was used to control the characters in both societies. The Uncharted Forrest and The Transgressor were used to scare the society in Anthem. The Transgressor was used as an example for all people who thought they could be an individual. The Uncharted Forrest made the society feel like they were trapped. â€Å"We had not thought of coming here, but our legs had carried our wisdom, and our legs had brought us to the Uncharted Forrest against our will. † Equality did not want to be in the Uncharted Forrest because he did not know what was in there. Since the whole society was afraid of the Uncharted Forrest, Equality did not want to be there when he first entered. Diana Moon Glampers filled the society with fear by assigning people handicaps and shooting Harrison and the ballerina. The punishment for taking out the lead balls on the weights was time in jail and a fine of $2000. â€Å"It was then that Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, came into the studio with a double-barreled ten-gauge shot gun. She fired twice, and the Emperor and Empress were dead before they hit the floor. Diana Moon Glampers loaded the gun again. She aimed it at the musicians and told them they had ten seconds to get their handicaps back on. †After shooting the Emperor and Empress, she tried to scare the musicians by aiming the gun at them. The fear of being shot like the Emperor and Empress scared the other people. Harrison made an example of what not to do because Diana Moon Glampers shot him for disobeying her authority. In both stories, there were characters that rebelled against their society. In Anthem, Equality rebelled against his society by sneaking away. Equality snuck out of the group meetings and created electricity in a tunnel. So when the oldest of them asked us: ‘Where have you been? ’ we thought of our glass box and of our light, and we forgot all else. And we answered: ‘We will not tell you. ’ The oldest did not question us further. † Equality rebelled against the World Council of Scholars and then refused to tell them where he had been. He was not allowed to be alone bec ause being alone brought you closer to being an individual. Harrison Bergeron rebels against the society by escaping from jail. â€Å"’Harrison Bergeron, age fourteen,’ she said in a grackle squawk, ‘has just escaped from jail. Harrison wants to overthrow the government, and show them how to be free and use their talents. He wants individuality for him and everyone else. He escaped from jail and rebelled against the society. In conclusion, Equality and Harrison both faced obstacles when striving for individuality. They both had the urge to be something more than the same as everybody else. In the novella Anthem and the short story â€Å"Harrison Bergeron,† Rand and Vonnegut use the theme of individualism vs. collectivism to show the oppression of each society, the fear used to control its citizens and the characters that rebel.

William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily - 1299 Words

Literary devices in a story are similar to the components of an engine in a car. Factors that reveal the author’s message to the reader are critical. In â€Å"A Rose for Emily† by William Faulkner, uses point of view, character, and symbolism to bring the reader into his world. It is through the eyes of the narrator that the reader can see the lapse of Miss Emily’s timeline, the unfolding of her character, and the symbolic nature of her actions and possessions. The changes the town of Jefferson goes through, decade after decade reveals the contrast with Miss Emily’s personality and way of life. It is Miss Emily’s incapability to develop along with the town that makes Faulkner’s message about the inevitable changes in life more poignant. Similarities Between Young Goodman Brown And Bartleby The...

The Prejudices of â€Å"Young Goodman Brown† and â€Å"Bartleby the Scrivener† The story of â€Å"Young Goodman Brown† by Nathaniel Hawthorne occurs in the 1600’s and takes place in Salem, a town located in the northeastern side of Boston, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony that was established by the Puritan settlers. â€Å"Bartleby the Scrivener†, by Herman Melville, is set in New York in 1853 in a law office staffed with peculiar men. Both stories have some prejudice aspects. The definition of prejudice is â€Å"preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience† (â€Å"Prejudice†). In â€Å"Young Goodman Brown the issues of prejudice center around the preconceived ideas of evil and witches. â€Å"Young Goodman Brown† is allegorical because it is about a man†¦show more content†¦Hawthorne relates his own experience to share the life of Brown, and he also uses internal conflict to explore Young Goodma n Brown’s identity crisis. In the beginning there was a conflict between the husband and wife. There is a slight argument between the husband and wife as Faith worries of danger and does not want Young Goodman Brown to leave her during the night, and this causes the distance between them. It then escalates into a problem between the good and wicked in the world when Young Goodman Brown meets the devil in the forest. â€Å"Young Goodman Brown† is lodged on the belief of corruption since the descent of man in the Garden of Eden after deviating against God, man has been led on the pathway of sin and wretchedness. This is a major theme as illustrated in the story as an allegory in that man is presented in the image of sin and of a polluted heart. Allegory is used by the presence of a man who ‘resembles himself in all aspects and that he carries a black serpent-shaped staff† (Melville). This is a suggestion of evil in that the darkness of the serpent and the staff are used to explain evil and the powers behind evil. He accepts the staff made specially for him by his â€Å"replica,† which allows him to hover around. In addition, the literature uses imagery in that the name Young Goodman Brown is used to indicate the innocence and naivety. On the other hand, the name Goodman is used to illustrate the

CRITIQUE OF CURTIS’ A NOTE TO STUDENT ART DIRECTORS Free Essays

Hal Curtis’ â€Å"A Note to Student Art Directors† is an inspirational, simple to read article about the need for greater creativity in the advertising world.   The author believes that there are formulas that are already in place and known to sell.   The art director’s job is to add more originality to the simple formulas. We will write a custom essay sample on CRITIQUE OF CURTIS’ A NOTE TO STUDENT ART DIRECTORS or any similar topic only for you Order Now    To put it another way, the author advises the budding art director not to forget about the word, ‘art,’ once he or she has managed to land a dream job in an advertising agency used to selling advertisements created with standard formulas.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The most essential portion of the article driving the point home begins and ends thus: â€Å"Here’s the thing†¦. But not the art part.†[1]   To encourage art directors to remain connected to originality and creativity – central to being an artist – Curtis offers several pointers toward the end of the article.   He mentions â€Å"execution† before this.[2]   According to him, art directors must not only remain focused on fine arts but also able to convey their originality and creativity in the advertisements that they play a role in creating.   These portions of the article persuade the reader to believe in the message of the author.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Although the author does not provide evidence of lack of creativity in the world of advertising, nearly everybody in the worlds of art and business is aware of the importance of creativity and innovation. A formula that sells does not ask for anything else unless an art director has risen above mediocrity to help in the creation of an advertisement that is entirely unique.   Even though Curtis does not mention this – it is quite possible for the art director’s originality to be rejected at first.   Then again, as the author would advise, it is for the art director to remain loyal to art. Foreign Market Strategic Management Journal -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Foreign Market Strategic Management Journal? Answer: Introduction The comparative Pestle Analysis of the two countries New Zealand and Czech Republic are conducted. This is accompanied by a grading system regarding all the six macro-environmental factors in case of both the countries. Refer to the appendix for the solution. Aldi is one of the most famous brands of Global Supermarket Chains, which have more than 10,000 stores in around 18 countries. It has a huge estimated turnover. The policy of the Aldi group has contributed to its success, which complies with the principle that great quality needs to come at affordable prices instead of prices out of the reach of the common people. This is because they are the major consumers of such products. According to the Global Competitiveness Report, the overall ranking of New Zealand is at number 13 while Czech Republic is at number 31. The score of New Zealand is at 5.31 whereas the score of Czech Republic is at 4.72. The chosen market for the expansion of market strategy out of New Zealand and Czech Republic is that of Czech Republic. This is because the country has made remarkable progress in the recent past and made several new changes in the country in order to uplift the political system and the financial condition of the country. According to the comparative pestle analysis of both the countries, it is seen that the political factors are highly stable in New Zealand for the foray of Aldi in the New Zealand Market in comparison to the reasonably stable conditions in Czech Republic. However, the overall score in the country of Czech Republic is more and thus this particular country is feasible for Aldi to expand its business further. The following are the rationale that are responsible for the identification and selection of Czech Republic as the ideal market for Aldi along with the application of a detailed macro-environmental factor analysis (Yksel 2012). The political situation of any country is extremely important for any company to enter into that particular market. There is a politically stable government in Czech Republic. The rules and regulations for the mode of entry are fair and there has not been any case of any riot or any sign of war or any major issue of concern in the country for several years in the past. Aldi has put a major amount of emphasis on the analysis of the macro environment of Czech Republic before making any sort of investment plans and from the political analysis discussed above it shows Czech Republic possess a stable political environment for Aldi to profit from (Yksel 2012). The country has the most stable as well as rich market in the whole of Central Europe. It is extremely well known and popular all over. It has produced a GDP of $214.6 billion in the year 2011. It reached an even higher mark of $279 billion in the year 2017. Czech Republic also has low labour costs in comparison to the other countries of Western Europe. The country has a significant PPP value of $28715 and is ranked at 34 in the entire world. The facts which have been discussed, show that the economic environment of the country is stable for Aldi to thrive in. Czech Republic has a high population demographic of young and working class people. The population falls in the age group of 15-64 years which falls in between the Aldi target market. The people who reside in Czech Republic are highly educated and usually abide by the rules and regulations of the country and for Ali to be successful in opening their franchise in Czech Republic, they need to be patient and follow the rules strictly (Grnig and Khn 2015). There is a significant scientific tradition in the country Czech Republic which is prevalent through several years of academic and specialized research which is responsible for bringing about new innovations and inventions. There are certain technological platforms that Aldi can benefit from. There is also facility for the stable equipments and computers for Aldi. Czech Republic is ranked quite high in the recycling field and in this regard it can be said that the recycling within the country has been increased from 1% to 16% over a decade and is steadily increasing at present and landfill taxes have also been enforced in the country. Aldi has also produced certain guidelines for the suppliers which indicate reusing, recycling and packaging whenever possible. Aldi now recycles 98% of its waste from landfill (Grnig and Khn 2015). In case of the legal factors it can be stated that there is a free trade movement of goods in Czech Republic, these striking legal factors are conducive to the ALDI investment in the Czech Republic (SUPERMARKET 2012). The five forces analysis for the discussion on the industrial environment of Czech Republic and the conditions favourable for Aldi is discussed. The threat of entrants is considered first. The barriers are low for big companies and high for small companies. There are high barriers and low risk factors which include high fixed costs, capital requirement of entry, economies of scale, access to supply and distribution channels and also the factors of retaliation. There are also low barrier and high risk scenarios which include the customer switching cost, regulation and these are to be kept in mind by the company (Rothaermel 2015). ALDI has been operating within the grocery industry and it is a promising area where the increasing population would be bound to impact the demand in the future. It can also be said that when there are businesses or innovations to the market; it also looks towards the increase of the population. It can be stated in this regard that the small scale markets would have certain problems in entering the market as the economies of scale play a huge role in the industry and they require a significant amount of capital and technology for their survival. The retail turnover in different segments also plays a chief function in the attraction of more competitors in the market under consideration. In relation to the bargaining power of buyer it can be said that there is a high risk with respect to the forces. There are certain standardised products, customer switching power and international hubs there are also a distinct group of customers. It is a known fact that more or less every person is a potential customer for the grocery industry and the demand is also considerably high. Due to the fact that the grocery products are low or medium involvement products the buyers would be bargaining for the high quality products and the greater levels of service for a lower cost. In case the needs of the customers are not met they have the chance of switching to another company as there is not much of an involvement of switching cost. Most of the grocery products are undifferentiated or standardized. The buyers can pose a threat in case they can integrate backward in the industry of the seller (Dobbs 2012). The threat of substitutes is also extremely high and this needs to be analysed well by the Company. There are several convenience stores and discount centres and the adaptation and innovation needs to be devised by the market. The large scale supermarkets and shopping malls are the prime threats for the retail stores are the alternative products range in the supermarkets is bound to be much greater. These would not only focus on the national brands but will also offer home brands for much cheaper rates in the form of substitutes. In addition to this it can be stated that the new and more innovative technologies stores and supermarkets will not hesitate to bring forward certain substitutes for the grocery and other household items which have lower costs with much greater performance and quality. The fast food outlets such as Mc Donalds and Subway would be the substitutes for the food items of the grocery industry (Chung 2015). With regard to the bargaining power of suppliers there can be said to be a medium risk. There are few products and lesser amount of dependency on the suppliers up to 40% of fruits and vegetables are locally produced and there is also a certain proximity to the countries which Aldi operates in. The competitive firms focus on the cost reduction and therefore the bargaining power of the suppliers is thought to be low. In addition to this it can be mentioned that there are large organisations in the industry with strategies for improvement of the efficiency and reduction of costs. There is a tendency where the prices are reduced for many national brands for the reduction of their costs (Dobbs 2012). The extent of rivalry among the competitors is also quite high. There are several big international names which include Tesco, Lidl, Penny Market and other hypermarkets are also there which comprise of 43% of the Czech Republic households. There are certain offered discounts which amount to around 25%. Most of the grocery stores are undifferentiated and they are easy to imitate. Due to this there are chances of intensification of rivalry and the purchasing decisions are bound to be based primarily on the prices and very less on the nature of service (Chung 2015). A VRIO framework helps in the understanding of the strengths which can be gained from the resources of as company. It comprises of four parts which include the criteria of being valuable, rare, unique or scarce, inimitable and suitable organisation. The resource of the company should be valuable, otherwise this will not pave the way for newer and better opportunities. The resources need to be rare in order to provide the company with a certain amount of competitive advantage. It should be inimitable by other competitors and immersed in the values of organisation. The resources of ALDI can be categorised as financial, technological, organisational and human resources. The company has a turnover of more than $50 billion and therefore it has the economic capability to enter into the new market. In addition to this it can be stated that the human resources are also the biggest asset for ALDI (Lin et al. 2013). ALDI also possesses immense experience in case of the international business and can utilize their present strategic frameworks to assist them in obtaining a competitive advantage over other existent rivals in Czech Republic (Jurevicius 2013). The technological resources are also used to enhance the technological resources which can be applied by the company in Czech Republic. By the application of the VRIO framework it can be said that several components can be described as follows: The economic resources can help the company to pursue the expansion strategies much more aggressively in order to achieve a definite competitive advantage. The organisation can also take advantage of their human resources and also the technologically advanced supermarkets in the new market. The employees are also technologically savvy and they also help in training the local people who are hired to work on part of the company. This helps in the standardisation of the whole operation. The company needs to focus on the existing technological operations and the resources need to be handled effectively and the rest of the management needs to be handed over to the marketing department (Andjelkovic Pesic, Jankovic Milic and Stankovic 2013). It can be stated in this regard that the company needs to put in place certain advanced processes in their respective outlets which might be difficult for their rivals to copy. Then it can be assured that other organisational resources are utilized as an advantage (Rothaermel 2015). Based on the conducted VRIO Analysis it can be sated that ALDI focuses on the creation of value for the customers by the reduction of cost and enhancement of the quality of its products (Rothaermel 2015). The VRIO and the analysis of the strategic capabilities of ALDI shows that it possesses certain resources and capabilities which act as key necessities and some are the key qualities (Kozlenkova, Samaha and Palmatier 2014). The most crucial qualities are the dominating competencies and these include the low labour cost, high buying power and a uniform price system which ALDI possesses. This has prompted an income of an above average return. It can be said that the key necessities are the basic skills which are required to operate in the market which include the size of a store, the capability of distribution, proper quality of products with low costs and this has led to earnings of average returns (Knott 2015). These factors, point to a sustainable competitive advantage for ALDI in Czech Republic. There are several possible modes of entry into certain foreign markets. The different modes of entry into the foreign market include exporting, licensing, management contracts, contract manufacturing, franchising, joint ventures or strategic alliances and finally that of full acquisition. Out of the different modes of entry into a foreign market, one of the oldest methods of entry is by exporting. By this procedure the goods and services of one country are sold in other countries. There are both methods of direct and indirect exporting. In the method if indirect exporting, there is the least amount of risk involved. The method of direct export needs to be applied once the organisations have gained a certain amount of experience. Contractual agreements are considered at the time when the firms have to approve more responsibility for their entry into the foreign market. Franchising is another possible option in the context of the foreign market entry. In case of franchising, the partic ular organisation can franchise its operations in another suitable company which is done in exchange for a share of profits (Chung 2015). The mode of entry which is most suitable in the case of ALDI in Czech Republic is that of joint venture or strategic alliance. After a proper study of the market in Czech Republic it can be stated that the best mode of entry of Aldi is by means of joint ventures or strategic alliances in the country. In case of joint ventures or strategic alliances, the firms who are internationally expanding must decide which of the markets can be entered into. The factors which affect the choice of entry mode covers factors like transport costs, trade barriers, political risks, economic risks, strategy of the firm and also the costs. The timing of entry must be chosen logically such that the company ultimately benefits from its choice (Laufs and Schwens 2014). The concept of the choice of joint venture can be attractive because the firms benefit from the knowledge of the local partner the cultural language, political systems and the business systems. The costs and the risks of opening a foreign mar ket are shared. These actually satisfy the political considerations for the entry into the market (Chung 2015). However it also needs to be kept in mind that the firms also risk the control of its technology to its partner. The firm also might not have a significantly tight control to realize the experience curve or the location economies. The shared ownership in this case can lead to conflicts and there are also battles for control in case the goals and the objectives differ or change over a period of time. The core competencies of the firm also help in the suitable analysis of whether the entry is suitable in a particular existing market (Laufs and Schwens 2014). For a successful entry into the market of the Czech Republic, at first the existing market needs to be properly analysed. The country is characterised by extensive population dispersion. Over 10 percent of the population is centred in Prague, the only city with more than a million inhabitants, on the other hand, majority of the Czechs live close to other major commercial and industrial hubs. Urban consumers in general have a greater purchasing power than the rural counterparts. Success in the market also requires an in-country presence such as a particular agent or distributor or any representative office. The local distributors usually take responsibility for handling customers, dealing with established wholesalers or retailers and marketing the product directly to major corporations or the government and handling the after sales service (Janda, Michalikov and Skuhrovec 2013). Price is also one of the crucial factors at the time of positioning a product or a particular service for s ale (Ang, Benischke and Doh 2015). Many competitors in the grocery industry follow a similar strategy which is to provide high quality products for low costs. At present, Aldi has one of the positions as a cost leader and continues a battle for its maintenance. At first the entry into a new market is tough but the strategic analysis is crucial for the survival in the market. References: Andjelkovic Pesic, M., Jankovic Milic, V. and Stankovic, J., 2013.
